We have great news: YOU SPOKE UP, THEY’RE LISTENING!
WHAT WE DID:
- We Connected with the Afghan Teachers’ Association to fully understand the situation on the ground.
- We helped coordinate a press conference in Kabul and other cities too.
- We delivered letters to the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank.
- We met with a World Bank representative who responded very encouragingly.
- We launched a petition drive.
- We met with many Congressional offices.
- We conducted research on modalities for direct payment to teachers and shared with stakeholders.
- We networked with NGO’s and partner organizations on the ground for ongoing latest information.
THE RESULT:
Plans are now underway to pay teachers directly. Obstacles are likely to arise along the way, so we are prepared to monitor and help trouble-shoot.
” The World Bank is deeply concerned about the situation in Afghanistan and the impact on the country’s development prospects, especially for women. We are closely monitoring and assessing the situation, and consulting with our Board of Directors, the international community, and development partners. We are particularly concerned about the disruptions in critical health services that put at risk the hard-won gains of the past two decades. We are working with our partners to find alternative ways for health services to continue to be financed and minimize the disruption of life-saving services.”
